1. William BROWNBRIDGE was born about 1814, possibly in Masham Parish, Yorkshire, England and died 11 Jul 1877 in Elizabethtown Twp, Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada aged about 63. The cause of his death was Heart failure.
Evidence regarding William's parentage is inconclusive. Family notes list his parents as William BROWNBRIDGE and Jane NEWTON, but no records have been found to suppport this. His parents may have been Peter BROWNBRIDGE and Elizabeth UNKNOWN as there is a batismal record in in York, Yorkshire, England dated 5 Jun 1814 for a William BROWNBRIDGE with Peter and Elizabeth as parents.
General Notes:
The 1851 Census indicates that William's 50 acres was divided as follows: 25 wood or wild, 25 under cultivation, 16 under crops, 9 in pasture, 2 for a garden or orchard (there is some overlap here). He produced 40 bushels of crop. He also had 3 milk cows, 2 calves, 2 horses, 10 sheep and 3 pigs. Food stores: a half pound of butter, 4 barrels or cwt. of beef and 3 of pork.

William married Elizabeth METCALF, daughter of Rev. Robert METCALF and Elizabeth CRADDOCK, probably about 1836 in Ontario, Canada. Elizabeth was born in 1818 in Masham Parish, Yorkshire, England baptised 25 Nov 1818 in Masham Parish and died 9 Sep 1873 in Elizabethtown Twp, Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada aged 55. The cause of her death was Consumption and she had been ill with the disease for 4 years.
Elizabeth was the 5th of at least 10 children, all born and baptised in Masham Parish. The 8 children who survived to adulthood all immigrated to Canada. Her father Robert METCALF (born 1788 in Ilton, Yorkshire, baptised May 4, 1788 in Masham Parish and died 2 Feb 1844 in North Augusta, Ontario, Canada), son of John METCALF and Mary WALKER, was a Wesleyan Methodist preacher. He married Elizabeth CRADDOCK (born abt 1789 in Wensleydale, Yorkshire England and died 3 Oct 1872 in Augusta Twp, Grenville Co., Ontario, Canada), daughter of William CRADDOCK and Ann JAMESON, on April 15, 1808 in Masham Parish.
